Power semiconductors are developing rapidly

Power Electronic Device, also known as power electronic device and power electronic device, refers to the core electronic device that can be directly used in the main circuit of processing electric energy to realize circuit transformation and control; its functions mainly include power conversion, power amplification, power switch, Line protection and rectification, etc.

From the classification of product form, power semiconductors can be roughly divided into two categories: Power Discrete (including power modules) and power ICs.

According to Omdia statistics, power chips accounted for more than 50% in the power semiconductor field from 2017 to 2021, which is the main subdivision product in the power semiconductor field, followed by power semiconductor discrete devices, and global power chips and power semiconductor discrete device products in 2021. The proportions were 55.78% and 32.03% respectively. It is estimated that by 2024, the global market size of power semiconductors will reach 53.8 billion US dollars, and the market prospect is broad.

With the development of new energy vehicles, the value and market size of power semiconductors have also increased rapidly.

According to the statistics of Strategy Analytics, the value of power semiconductors in traditional fuel vehicles in 2019 is only US$71, which is relatively low; while the value of power semiconductors in hybrid vehicles has increased to US$425, which is 6 times that of traditional fuel vehicles; pure electric vehicles The value of power semiconductors in automobiles has increased to $387, which is 5.5 times that of traditional fuel vehicles.

Among the downstream demand for power discrete devices in the world, the automotive market accounts for the highest proportion, reaching about 35%. Medium and low voltage discrete devices represented by MOSFETs are widely used in electric sunroofs, wipers, airbags, rearview mirrors and other fields of automobiles. The demand for MOSFETs for on-board chargers and DC-DC converters of electric vehicles has further increased.

In addition, after the car lights are converted to LED headlights, the demand for MOSFETs has increased from 1 to 18 for each light. Many new car manufacturers are keen on the roof and side gradient glass. The demand for MOSFETs is also increase.

From the perspective of the global competition pattern, the MOSFET market is basically monopolized by European, American and Japanese companies. Infineon ranks first with a market share of 24.6%, CR5 is about 59.8%, Nexperia and China Resources Microelectronics are 4.1% and 3% respectively. The market share ranks eighth and ninth.

In the middle of this year, Infineon, the global power semiconductor giant, said that due to the balance of supply and demand in the market and the price increase of upstream materials, it implied that prices would increase. Based on Infineon's leading position in the MOSFET field, its price increase warning may be of great significance to the entire industry.

According to Infineon statistics, the value of single-vehicle semiconductors for traditional fuel passenger vehicles is about $500, and the value of power semiconductors accounts for about 20%, or about $100. However, the value of single-vehicle semiconductors for pure electric and plug-in new energy vehicles has increased sharply to about $1,000. In the US dollar, power semiconductors used to realize the basic functions of switching and rectification occupy the vast majority of the value increment.

Although the current weak demand in the consumer electronics market represented by mobile phones and PCs has a certain impact on power semiconductors, the increase in applications in the automotive field has become a key factor supporting its market space and trend, making power semiconductors develop well.
