Optocouplers are the most commonly used isolation devices in power switch circuits, with a wide range of applications. Due to the rapid development of wearable devices, Netcom products, smart home appliances, consumer electronics, electric vehicles, cloud servers and 5G base stations, the demand is growing rapidly. At present, the main suppliers of optocouplers include Broadcom, Toshiba, Renesas, Vishay, Rohm, Lite-On, Everlight, Tiandian, etc.
In the case of a substantial increase in market demand, starting from the fourth quarter of 2020, the demand for optocouplers and related components will begin to increase sharply, and the tight production capacity will become more serious in 2021. Lite-On and Everlight both gradually increased their prices. At least double-digit jumps, and even reported a maximum increase of 30%.
2. Renesas Electronics will adjust the price from January 1, 2022
According to a price increase notice sent by Renesas Electronics to customers, Renesas Electronics stated that in the entire semiconductor industry, due to front-end (wafer), back-end, test and packaging, and raw material capacity constraints, suppliers have increased significantly In order to maintain the supply and long-term production of Renesas Electronics, it was decided to increase the pricing of most of Renesas Electronics’ products and the newly acquired Dialog products. Renesas Electronics declares that customer orders shipped before January 1, 2021 will be received at the current price. After January 1 next year, all existing orders and new orders will be processed at the new price. It is reported that Renesas Electronics has repeatedly sent price adjustment notices to customers before.
It is worth noting that the products raised this time include the newly acquired Dialog products of Renesas. Public information shows that Dialog's product line focuses on the power management chip market. 3. Qualcomm: Starting from December 31st, the second price increase for Bluetooth products
Recently, Qualcomm announced that it will carry out a second price increase for its Bluetooth products starting from December 31. Among them, QCC51XX series will be increased by 17%, QCC30XX series will be increased by 6%, CSR8670/CSR8675 will be increased by 21%, CSR8811 series will be increased by 15%, and CSR861 5/CSR8635 will be increased by 13%.
4. UMC will increase 8-12% from January 2022
According to Taiwan media reports, the foundry UMC will launch a new wave of price increases measures, mainly for the three major customers that account for more than 30% of the revenue. The increase is about 8% to 12%, and it will take effect from January 2022. At present, UMC’s main customers include AMD, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Nvidia and other major manufacturers, as well as orders from major European manufacturers such as Infineon and STMicroelectronics.
UMC emphasized that this time it will indeed sign new annual long-term contracts with some customers, and make price adjustments based on the current market conditions. According to the industry, even if the foundry prices of foundries increase quarterly, UMC's production capacity will basically be "completely sold out" before 2022.
5. Analog Devices Inc.: another 10%-20% increase in January 2022
According to market news, the global analog chip giant ADI will increase product prices by 10-20% in January next year.
Prior to November, ADI had issued a price increase letter, stating that since all aspects of the supply chain have experienced cost increases, it will increase the prices of certain products in ADI and its Maxim product portfolio from December 5, 2021.
